How to build farms on Age of Empires
Farms are a good way to gather food. Let's see how to build them.
Age of Empires 1 and Definitive Edition
- Build the granary
- Reach the Tool Age
- Build the marketplace
- Now you can build farms
In the first Age of Empires farms cost 75 wood and you can create them right after building the Marketplace, which requires the Granary. Therefore, in any Random Map or Deathmatch, you will just need to build the Granary at the cost of 120 wood, possibly near some berries. Then you'll need to reach the Tool Age and build the Marketplace at the cost of 150 wood. After that you will be able to make farms near the Town Center or the Granary. The food collected from farms, as well as the one from berries, can't be delivered to Storage pits!
With AoE1: Definitive Edition you can also enable the auto-regeneration for your farms from the Granary, so when one farm will be out of food, your villager will replace it with a new one on the same spot for another 75 wood.
To upgrade farms you need to research technologies in the Marketplace, which will increase the total amount of food you can collect from each farm.
Age of Empires 2 and Definitive Edition
- Build the mill
- Now you can build farms
In Age of Empires 2 farms cost 60 wood and you can build them after building the Mill, which requires 100 wood. Then you can place your farms around your Town Center or Mill. You can gather food from farms and berries only at the Town Center or Mill.
In the Mill you can also enable the auto-regeneration for your farms from the Mill, so when one farm will be out of food, your citizen will replace it with a new one on the same spot for another 60 wood.
To upgrade farms you need to research technologies from the Mill, which will increase the total amount of food you can collect from each farm.
